So apparently Austin is a taco "Mecca". They have it figured out. My favorite tacos so far have been Torchy's Tacos on South Congress and Taco Joint just a quick walk from our new place on Riverside. Homemade tortillas, huge variety, and the best "breakfast tacos" I have ever had. So far all of the tacos have been huge. You can order 2 and be full!
Every night, as the sun begins to set, Congress bridge is packed with tourists and locals waiting to see the incredible bats of Austin. Architects in 1980 had no idea that the ridges created during the Congress Bridge renovation would create the perfect bat roost! As many as 1.5 million bats can be seen flying into the Austin night sky. Walk under Congress Bridge during the day and you can hear their eerie screeches! Watch the bats from the bridge or booze cruise on one of the many Boat Bat Tours.
Oh my dog.. Austin is insanely Dog friendly. They even let dogs into bars! One of our favorite Bars on Rainey Street called Banger's, has a mini dog park in the back. Taking a walk along Lady Bird? Get ready to see a LOT of dogs. Labs and Frenchie's seem to the dogs of Austin!
Feeling like a thick Chicago pie? Check out VIA 313 food truck located in the back of Craft Pride on Rainey! Looking for Connecticut style? Head to Salvation Pizza for a thin crust tasty slice.
5. Ladybird Lake!
Really a slow moving river, Ladybird Lake is the place to be in Austin! Whether you are walking around the beautiful and shady tree lined trail, or renting a giant swan to float the river, the river has the best views of the city!
6. Uber Eats!
You might have heard that Austin no longer has UBER. Devestating right? Well, not really. Fasten and Fare are the "new" and more "thoroughly screened" ride options in Austin! Uber didn't just pick up and leave however. Instead they now run a food delivery service. Hungry? Don't drive through Austin traffic like a chump, order Pho(NATIC) for a $3.00 delivery fee. Hungry for Kimchi Fries? Chilantro can be at your door in less than 30! Don't want to wait in line at snooze? Have sweet potato pancakes delivered to your door! UBER EATS is the BEST.
Did I mention Austin's traffic? With InstaCart we simply order our groceries online. A professional grocery shopper picks out our items, and a driver delivers them to our door within 2 hours. My favorite part? It saves your last list which makes meal prep and budgeting a breeze! I don't think I will ever go grocery shopping again.
8. Rainey Street!
Next time you're in Austin avoid dirty 6th and check out Rainey Street. This historical neighborhood is home to beautiful sky rise apartments contrasted by beautiful homes that have been renovated into super trendy bars and restaurants. To top it off... there is a food truck court in the heart of Rainey offering everything from Fried Chicken and Waffles to White Girl Asian food.
9. Working from home!
You know all of that traffic people talk about anytime anyone mentions living in Austin? It doesn't matter when you can work from home! :-) If you HAVE to be in traffic... try podcasts or books on tape! I recommend Tim Ferris. Or call your mom :-)
10. This Van! No words just lovely af.
