During our 4 months living in the van, we found that we had a lot of free time. It was great, don't get me wrong, but it is interesting what happens to the mind when it is able to relax. You become more curious. You see things differently. The fight or flight component of your brain takes a break and you are given room for creativity. I have always wanted to have my "own" sketching style. I didn't necessarily want my sketches to be "good" I just wanted them to be my own. So one day in Pony, Montana a spider landed on my head and I went into full panic mode. I locked myself in the van and started to sketch. I started sketching flowers that I saw on our trip. I "got out of my head" so to speak and just started drawing. I entered into what I call "flow" and spent 4 hours one day just sketching and coloring flowers. If I think about a sketch too much I hate the way it looks. Instead I draw fast and rhythmic. My vision almost blurs as if I'm not even really looking at what I am creating. It felt so free and raw and whenever I was finished, I really loved my sketch. Not because it was good, but because it was distinctively mine. So here are my awkward sketches for you to see!
